It’s near the end of day one staining the kitchen cabinets and we’ve made good progress! The microwave cabinet is done. Below are the cabinet doors drying away. The color isn’t really correct in the picture, which is really annoying and makes me love my dslr even more. 🙂
The counter run is almost done and the island is about 70% done. The refrigerator cabinet is still untouched.
I applied the wood conditioner while the finishing guy stained away. Staining is a tricky thing. The stain was cut with 50% lacquer thinner to get the desired color but as time goes by the lacquer thinner evaporates and more needs to be added to the mixture. So you need to keep an eye on how the wood is taking the stain to know when to add lacquer thinner. I think the drawers in the picture below may be darker than the initial pieces but I like them better anyway.
