Hey there, it’s been a while since I’ve written. I started a new job about 3 weeks ago and I haven’t had a chance to update anything on the blog. Well I’m back…today. Since the last time I wrote we’ve gotten our pond up and running which is super exciting. We really love spending time poking around the pond, trying to attract the fish and fixing the plants. It’s super tranquil. Last week we got our first round of fish. We picked two shubunkin goldfish, two comet goldfish, two white molly’s and 6 guppies (3 male, 3 female). The male guppies are iridescent and really pretty while the females are brown and plain. We got the females just because we want them to reproduce.
I took the images of the goldfish from the internet because they stay near the bottom of the pond and the water isn’t clear enough yet to capture images of them. The molly’s are nice because they stay near the top of the water, plus they’re white so they’re easy to find.
As you can see here, the water is not quite balanced yet.
We’ve got the majority of the plants planted in the front yard and one of the yellow tabs has come back to life. When it was first planted it had no leaves and looked like a dead tree. I really love the purslane ground cover underneath the tree. The flowers open during the day and close at night. The purslane is even edible! People sometimes make salads with it.
The dwarf tibouchina shown below grows 2-3 feet tall, so it should fill in nicely and create a nice border over the top of the rocks.
Papi likes the garden better than the pond…
It’s definitely a work in progress but at least we’re moving forward!
